Frequently Asked Questions

Gas fire pits (propane or natural gas) are the more popular choice for most backyards today. They light instantly at the push of a button, produce no smoke or ash, and are easy to control. Our propane models like the Endless Summer series use a standard 20 lb propane tank that tucks neatly underneath the table. Wood burning fire pits give you a classic crackling campfire experience and are generally less expensive to buy, but they require dry firewood and produce smoke that may be an issue in tighter outdoor spaces or depending on local burn regulations.

No. Most propane fire pits and fire pit tables are designed for easy self-assembly and do not require a professional installer. They simply connect to a standard 20 lb propane tank (not included) using the included regulator hose. Just follow the assembly instructions included with your unit. If you are connecting a fire pit to a permanent natural gas line, however, that work should be done by a licensed gas professional to meet local code requirements.

For most backyard settings, a fire pit rated between 30,000 and 60,000 BTU is more than enough to create warmth and ambiance. Our smaller gas fire columns like the GLT series run at 10,000 BTU and are ideal for decorative use or mild evenings. Mid-range fire pit tables in the Endless Summer lineup typically run between 30,000 and 50,000 BTU, which is suitable for a patio seating area of 10 to 15 feet. Premium models like The Benjamin with dual heat technology push closer to 60,000 BTU for colder nights or larger outdoor spaces.

Gas fire pit tables can generally be used on a wood deck as long as there is adequate clearance from combustible surfaces and overhead structures. Always follow the minimum clearance guidelines listed in the product manual, which typically require at least 36 inches of clearance on all sides and from above. Wood burning fire pits are not recommended on wood decks due to flying embers and heat transfer. For covered patios, gas models are preferred, but always ensure the space is open and well ventilated. Check your local fire codes before use.

The majority of our outdoor gas fire pits and tables are designed to run on propane (LP gas), which makes them portable and easy to set up anywhere in your yard without any permanent gas line. Models from Endless Summer and Outdoor Great Room use standard 20 lb propane tanks. Some premium fire pit tables from Outdoor Great Room can be converted to natural gas with a conversion kit. Check the individual product page or contact us to confirm compatibility before purchasing a conversion kit.

Yes. Most of our fire pit tables include a fitted lid or cover that sits over the burner area, allowing you to use the table as a regular outdoor table when the fire is not in use. This makes them a great dual-purpose piece of patio furniture. The lids are typically made of matching material to the table top, whether that is faux wood, tile, concrete finish, or marble. Be sure the burner has fully cooled before placing the cover on top

The lava rocks or fire glass that come included with most of our gas fire pits serve two purposes. First, they conceal the burner pan and gas components for a cleaner, more decorative look. Second, they help distribute the flame evenly across the burner surface, creating a fuller and more visually appealing fire. Lava rocks give a natural rustic look, while fire glass adds a modern, reflective sparkle. You can swap out the included media for a different style over time if you want to refresh the look of your fire pit.

When not in use for extended periods, always disconnect the propane tank and store it in a well ventilated outdoor area away from the unit. Use a heavy duty waterproof cover sized for your specific fire pit model to protect the table top, burner, and frame from moisture, UV rays, and debris. For cast iron or steel wood burning fire pits, occasional application of a high heat resistant spray paint can help prevent rust. Bringing smaller fire pit accessories like lids and lava rocks indoors during harsh winter months will extend their lifespan significantly.
